Hackathon Invitation – Addressing the interoperability challenge

Calling all developers, innovators, and fintech pioneers: Can your team address the interoperability challenge to bridge the gap between digital money and today’s global payment systems?

You are invited to develop solutions that enable more seamless integration of cross-network, cross-currency flows with existing ‘operating’ systems, enhance interoperability by mapping blockchain-native identifiers, wallet addresses, transaction hashes and token IDs to traditional financial identifiers such as BICs, LEIs/vLEIs and IBANs.

Digital money and digital payments innovations have the potential to improve cross-border flows by reducing costs, enhancing speed, and improving transparency. As of September 2024, the total market capitalisation of crypto-assets was valued at $2 trillion. Stablecoins comprised 8.5% of this market, amounting to $171 billion. And, according to a recent Bank for International Settlements (BIS) survey, two-thirds of the 86 jurisdictions surveyed are, or will soon be, regulating digital assets.

Considering interoperability is one of our areas of interest and was also the focus of the Blockchain Intelligence Forum, our association is supporting the Swift Hackathon 2025, to tackle this challenge and help shape the future of finance.
